The most disrespectful clients are the ones that don't pay

Thursday, December 11, 2014 - Court - Equal justice in Family Court - Judith Powell

So now that we all complained, (rightfully so), what are the answers? How do we get a well-functioning court system? My few ideas are:

1. Court should start on time. I realize that delays happen but there is no way 10 different cases can be heard at 9:30 AM.

2. If a lawyer or party is late, they should have to pay the attorney fees of the other side

3. No free lawyers in family court. Everyone should have to pay, even if it is $5 an hour. The most disrespectful clients are the ones that don't pay.

4. Judges must treat lawyers and parties with respect.

5. People are given information on how to show their respect for the court. There is a dress code, etc. (I'm not saying anyone has to dress rich or fancy, but no shorts, no tank tops etc.)

6. Clients are present at virtually all conference. No more secrecy. This is about their lives, they should know what is being said.
